They don’t come from Guinea. In fact, guinea pigs originate from the Andes region of South America. The ‘guinea’ in their name is a bit of a mystery. They are not related to pigs at all. Even though male guinea pigs are called boars and females are called sows, they are actually rodents.
​
They can break dance. Well, not quite, but when they are excited, guinea pigs can jump straight up and down, often turning 90° in mid-air, performing a slick little move known as ‘pop corning’.

Lady Gaga
Beautiful Lady Gaga moved to HQ in 2022 when her owner no longer had the space or time for her. She is a very friendly girl who loves having her long locks stroked and brushed.

We currently have over 20 Guinea Pigs living at the sanctuary so Gaga is in good company and definitely one of the bosses of the herd.
