Our gorgeous boy Wilbur came to live with us in the Summer of 2017. He loves sitting on a lap and being fed a fresh carrot.
The meerkats are usually our most popular animal and therefore we cannot guarantee them for every single event so please do talk to us about them if you want to book either of them for an event or party.
Barbie, along with Ken, are
our beautiful corn snakes.
They are roughly 5-6 years old and were donated to us in 2015 because the owners children had grown tired of them. They have grown up in
a big family with lots of children, so are used to being handled and love the attention.
This animal is suitable for SEN Encounters
of all ages
RUSSIAN DWARF HAMSTERS
Fine to be touched/stroked
with some interaction guided
by the handler
Our beautiful Royal Python Camilla is the largest of our snakes and one that certainly will grab the attention of your guests.
Now an endangered species!
Husband to Nancy but more playful and sometimes will eat from a hand too. Ralph loves events where he can walk around a little and also sit on some laps.
Our cute youngest rat Boris is one of our friendliest animals and loves walking up arms and having a little sit on your shoulder. Always hugely popular...and a little ticklish!
This animal it to be looked at only with help from the handler
Given to us in 2016 due to family illness Felipé immediately fitted in and quickly become a firm favourite. He loves walking up arms and sitting on heads.
The eldest of our Bearded Dragons and our resident Dame. Nancy loves sitting on
a lap and having her head stroked.
Probably handler Marks favourite is lovely Rita the Rat. Such a friendly girl who was adopted from a local rescue and loves meeting lots of new people and walking around shoulders, arms and laps.
Enjoys being held with full interation
This gorgeous girl recently came to love with us after her owner passed away. Many have compared her look to a baby hippo which doesn't seem to bother pretty Winnie!
Colin is one of our wonderful hermit crabs. They are much friendlier than larger crabs and are ok to be held and looked at up close.
Our gorgeous Cynthia is also happy to sit on everyones hands and arms and have her back stroked. Cynthia came to live with us all the way from North London where her owners travelled a lot and wanted to find a more stable home for her.
Millie and Maggie were donated by someone who didn't want them anymore. Maggie is the smallest of our two girls but they are equally friendly and enjoy exploring.
This amazing character is probably our most lazy animal and is often seen laying on his back and having his tummy rubbed at events. Derek came to live with us after his owners child became bored of him.
ANNA & ELSA
Our 'Frozen' girls are 2 of our most popular animals and love coming to meet all ages for lots of cuddles. Both rabbits were given to us by a local family after their child developed allergies to rabbit fur.
Ferrets can be a real love or hate animal but we love them at Our Amazing Animal World. Simba loves coming to events and meeting many different people.
We have 2 other ferrets that live with Simba and once handler Mark is happy that they are are ready for events then George and Mildred will appear here also.
Not all animals are the same and so don't all enjoy the same kind of interaction so we have designed a simple guide to help when deciding which animals would be best suited for your animal experience. Remember to choose a varied selection to please the different tastes of your guests. We have indicated which are happy in SEN Encounters and which are suitable to Outdoor events in warmer months.
Arriving with a broken tail and no appetite in 2016 Gonzo is one of our happiest success stories. With a soft grip he is suitable for all ages.
LORETTA AND LEROY
Our leaf insects are truly amazing and need to be seen to be believed. We thought the chameleons camouflage was impressive until we saw how amazing these little creatures blend in. Happy to sit on your hand and walk over your arm.
They are delicate creatures so we recommend these for slightly older children.
Ellie is a beautiful 10 year
old African Grey Parrot that came to live with us because the family she was living with couldn't look after her anymore. She had been fed a very poor diet and lost most of her feathers through plucking but slowly these are now growing back. Ellie is very talkative and likes to say things like 'hello', 'cup of tea', wolf whistle and sing the Smurfs theme tune.
Ellie is ONLY available with handler Jerry as they have a special bond.
Penelope is our beautiful Leopard gecko who came to live with us when a local mum asked us to take her in as her child didn't like her. She is very friendly and happily sits on a hand or arm.
Pretty Blanche came to live with us after our vet asked us to take her on when she was abandoned at the surgery.
Our beautiful Olive is a 2 year old tortoise and she has been visiting people now since she arrived with us in 2015. Olive is very friendly and very used to being held and is happy to let you stroke her head as well as her legs.
Ernest the Tortoise belongs to handler Mathew and he sometimes comes to events too.
The youngest of our rabbits, Turbo, has lived with us since a baby and is always happy to come and make new friends. Great with younger children.
The naughtier of our 2 meerkats Mika is missing her tail after her mum bit it off when he was a baby. She came to live with us at 8 weeks old and likes showing off her tail stump as well as taking chicken from you.
Harold is our friendly African Pigmy Hedgehog. He was given to us by a nurse who was working long hours and wanted a better life for him.
He will sit on your lap and can be stroked however hedgehogs are prickly and are not usually the most sociable of our animals.
We have Henry and Snowy who will also sometimes attend events too.
A little smaller than Millie, Maggie is happy to walk over your hands and legs and explore. It is amazing to feel all 250 legs walking over in a tickle fashion.
VLADIMIR & VERA
Certainly not one for the squeamish Vincent, Vlad
& Vera are our very beautiful cockroaches.
Pretty nifty on their feet these colourful critters will happily run over your hands and arms but die to the speed we are recommending these for older children.
DUPRASI (African Gerbil)
GIANT AFRICAN SNAIL
Maud is our lovely shy girl who loves a cuddle especially in smaller groups.
Cheeky Bonnie came to live with us in 2016 with Clyde. Meerkats aren't the cuddly animals that TV would have you believe and so aren't ideal for children under 5.
A true show stopper and the animal everyone will want their photo taken with. Even if you are scared yourself remember your guests will probably love it!
LOUIS & DOREEN
This amazing duo joined us recently and are already firm favourites! Tiny and super cute they are equally happy say on a hand or running around a lap.
Great addition to an event where younger children that aren't used to holding animals can gain some confidence with a cute, tiny character!
These elegant reptiles are a must for any party
and are truly amazing!
AFRICAN GREY PARROT
Mavis is much larger than Ken and Barbie and is very large for a Corn Snake. Don't let her size put your off though because Mavis is our gentle giant and is extremely friendly! She was homed to us by a lovely lady who felt she no longer had the time to dedicate to Mavis.
PEANUT & JELLO
Peanut & Jello are the 2 adults of our African land snail family. They originally come from East Africa (Kenya and Tanzania) and are considered pests in many countries. Peanut and Jello were both donated by someone who was moving and no longer wanted them as pets.
A little slimy to the touch but very popular especially with boys!
Toffee came to live with us along with Nibbles in 2015 and, like Nibbles, is happiest say on a lap being fed carrots or spinach. A great start to an animal encounter.
We adopted little Nibbles in February 2015. He lived for a while in Jerry’s classroom but now resides at Our Amazing Animal World HQwith the other guinea pigs.
Now an endangered species!
Stanley came to live with us
in 2015 and, even though he is friendly, he cannot be touched or held. In the wild Axolotls are almost extinct so Stanley is a great animal to see and learn about. We bought Stanley when we saw him kept in a tiny bowl in a pet shop and felt so sorry for him. He now has a large tank and seems much happier.
BEVERLY & SHIRLIE
These gorgeous sisters were given to us in July 2017 after their owners circumstances changed. Both are extremely friendly and love a cuddle but also sometimes can be hand fed at events too.
Carrie is the sister of Colin
and they live together here at Our Amazing Animal World. They were an unwanted gift that was then offered to us in 2016
Bonnie and Clyde (L/T) These 2 gorgeous Meerkats came to live with us in October 2016.
Meerkats are not super cuddly animals and react best with small, calm encounters as they can spook fairly easily in larger noisy groups. They like to run around, explore and take food from your hand.
Clyde didn't have the best start in life as his mum ate his tail but this doesn't appear to concern him at all. They are very naughty and always up to mischief which makes them even more lovable!
We came across Jezza in the adoption section of a local pet store and given he shared his name with our very own (Jerry) Jezza we couldn't say no.
We are extremely passionate animal lovers and have been offering a home to unwanted / unloved animals for many years. Some of the characters we have given a second chance to can come and meet you and are featured below.
This indicates the suitable age ranges/groups
Our gorgeous white Cilla is a wonderfully calm chinchilla who was given to us by a student who could no longer care for heart university.
Not all animals are suitable for outdoor events so if you are planning one please check which animals
are ok for this
These beauties are our almost hairless breed
of Guinea pig called Skinny Pigs.
GIANT AFRICAN MILLIPEDES
Nancy (H) Nancy is the lady and boss of our bearded dragons. She is our most scary looking animal, but in fact she is also the friendliest. Nancy is more yellow in colour and slightly larger than our other dragons. We homed both Nancy and Ralph in Spring 2015, as their owners couldn’t look after them anymore. Nancy loves her vegetables and wax worms as a treat.
